About this site

VasconcelosBlomberg is an independent publication launched in July 2026 by me, Paula Vasconcelos-Blomberg. I have bachelor's degrees in Philosophy and History, an MSc in Genetics, and a PhD in Theoretical Ecology; and I currently work as a data scientist for the WHO collaborator Uppsala Monitoring Centre. The views expressed here are entirely my own and do not represent those of my employer; what I write is entirely my responsibility.

This blog is my ideas nursery, a place to think in public where I follow whatever pulls my curiosity and stay with it until my thinking gets sharp. What you will most likely find here is a blend of philosophy of science and medicine, how knowledge works in institutions, how cognition is distributed in systems, and what AI is and isn't doing to human skill.

I write this in the evenings, after work and after the children are asleep, because I enjoy writing and sharing. All of it is free to read. Subscribing means new pieces arrive by email, and you can get connected with others who share similar interests.

An important note in this age of AI: Everything written here is 100% generated by me. I do not, and will never, post things that I did not write with my own hands and think with my own mind. The references I make are to literature I am either already familiar with or that I have become familiar with by researching for the purposes of writing the essays. My use of AI is limited to proofreading, fact-checking, and light editorializing (e.g., accepting a suggestion for changing the order of presenting ideas) — the same stuff I rely on my husband for. Although I make liberal use of AI for work, I have a very different attitude about using it for writing — I am highly protective of my writing practice and the habits of mind that cultivate it. So rest assured, dear reader, that you are never reading AI-generated content here.
